Concerto Competition

2023-24 KSYO Concerto Competition

The KSYO Concerto Competition is open to all pre-college instrumental students who live in Knox, Anderson, Blount, Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, Loudon, Roane, Sevier or Union counties, or are current members of the Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra. Previous winners are not allowed to compete in consecutive years.

Beethoven – Piano Concerto No. 3, 1st movement

Takeuchi will perform the first movement of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra on February 19, 2024. Thank you to all finalists and contestants who participated in this year’s KSYO Concerto Competition!

About Haruki Takeuchi

Haruki Takeuchi is a senior at Farragut High School. He began studying piano at the age of six and is currently studying under Dr. David Northington. Haruki was recently selected as a 2024 Young Pianist Series Recital Pianist of the University of Tennessee, the festival student of the 2023 Gina Bachauer International Festival, 2nd place at the Nashville International Piano Competition, and 3rd place at the 10th Yamaha International Competition, along with the special prize for the performance of the best Chopin etude and work written from a female composer. He has also won 1st place at the International BTHVN Wien Music Competition, the Tiziano Rossetti International Competition, the Pacific International Piano Competition, the Salzburg Grand Prize Virtuoso International Competition, and the 2021 MTNA Southern Division Competition. He has held solo recitals in Poland and Japan and has studied at the 40th and 44th Kirishima International Music Festival under Prof. Cyprien Katsaris and Prof. Susumu Aoyagi.
