Concerto Competition

  2018-2019 Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition

The KSYO Concerto Competition is open to all pre-college instrumental students who live in Knox, Anderson, Blount, Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, Loudon, Roane, Sevier or Union counties, or are current members of the Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra Association. (Previous winners are not allowed to compete in consecutive years).

Please email a recording of the applicant performing one movement of a solo work with orchestral accompaniment.  The recording should include a piano accompanist performing the piano reduction of the orchestral part. ONLY AUDIO RECORDINGS will be accepted.  Recorded media accepted include: iTunes and Windows programs that produce mp3 and mp4 formats. They should be emailed to or you may mail a hard copy of a standard compact disc along with your application fee to the address below.

  • Final Live Audition Round

Finalists from the prelimnary recording round will be announced on this web page by November 19, 2018. All finalists selected will perform in a live public audition round on MONDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2018.  Winner(s) will be announced on this webpage the evening of December 3.

Winners will receive a cash award and perform with the Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra on February 11, 2019.  (Rehearsal Schedule will be determined after the 2018-2019 winner(s) are announced.)
