The KSYO Concerto Competition is open to all pre-college instrumental students who live in Knox, Anderson, Blount, Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, Loudon, Roane, Sevier or Union counties, or are current members of the Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra Association. (Previous winners are not allowed to compete in consecutive years).
Auditions are limited to one movement of a solo work with orchestral accompaniment.
The orchestral accompaniment parts must be readily available by purchase or rental. Questions about the suitability of a piece should be emailed to KSO Youth Orchestra Manager: Kathy Hart.
Students must submit the following:
Application, recording and fee must be received by November 3, 2017.
Each application must be printed and have a private instructor’s signature and a parent’s signature. Applicants are requred to have their own accompanist for the recording and for the final live audition if selected.
- PRELIMINARY ROUND RECORDINGS:
Please email a recording of the applicant performing one movement of a solo work with orchestral accompaniment. The recording should include a piano accompanist performing the piano reduction of the orchestral part. ONLY AUDIO RECORDINGS will be accepted. Recorded media accepted include: iTunes and Windows programs that produce mp3 and mp4 formats. They should be emailed to Kathy@knoxvillesymphony.com or you may mail a hard copy of a standard compact disc along with your application fee to the address below.

Final Live Audition Round
Finalists from the prelimnary recording round will be announced on this web page by November 20, 2017. All finalists selected will perform in a live public audition round on MONDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2017. Winner(s) will be announced on this webpage the evening of December 11.
Winners will receive a cash award and perform with the Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra on February 12, 2018. (Rehearsal Schedule will be determined afte rthe 2017-2018 winner(s) are announced.
