Born on the island of Montserrat in the Caribbean, Robyn Quinnett began playing violin at eight years old. She has won several competitions including the National Mariam Hayes, Ruth Kern Competitions, and was a semi-finalist in the Sphinx Competition.
Robyn earned her undergraduate and masters degrees from The Juilliard School studying with Naoko Tanaka and the late Stephen Clapp. Robyn will complete her DMA in 2018 at Stony Brook University as a student of Hagai Shaham. She has attended the Tanglewood Music Center, Aspen Music Festival, Colorado College Music Festival, and Festival Internacional de Inverno de Campos do Jordão in Brazil.
Robyn is dedicated to community engagement and pedagogy. She founded The Montserrat Music Festival, a summer teaching and performing festival, bringing music education and live chamber music to the island of Montserrat and neighboring islands. Robyn also has enjoyed positions as Dean of the Sphinx Performance Academy, Violin Teacher at The Chapin School, and Orchestra Coach of the Diller-Quaile Orchestra while maintaining a private studio. Also a dedicated orchestral musician, Robyn is very excited to join the Knoxville Symphony for their 2017-2018 season.
Robyn’s violin is generously sponsored by Darnton and Hersh Violin Shop in Chicago.
