2015-2016 Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition:

Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra on February 15, 2016
at 7:00 PM at the Tennessee Theatre

Melody Guo, piano - Concert No. 2, Op. 102, First Movement by Shostakovich
Isabelle Lee, piano - Concerto in A minor, First Movement by Grieg
Spencer McDonald, saxophone - Tableaux De Provence by Maurice
Kari Novilla, harp - Concerto for Harp and Orchestra in E-flat Major, Op. 74, First Movement: Allegro Moderato by Gliere
Lyric Rivera, flute - Flute Concert, First Movement by Ibert
Henry Shen, piano - Concerto No. 21, K. 467 in C Major, First Movement by Mozart
Finalists will be notified of their audition time via email. Applicants are required to have their own accompanist for the recording and for the final live audition.
The competition is open to all pre-college instrumental students who live in Knox, Anderson, Blount, Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, Loudon, Roane, Sevier or Union counties, or are current members of the Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra Association.
Previous winners are not allowed to compete in consecutive years.
Auditions are limited to one movement of a solo work with orchestral accompaniment.
The orchestral accompaniment parts must be readily available by purchase or rental. Questions about the suitability of a piece should be emailed to KSO Youth OrchestraManager: Kathy Hart.
Students must submit the following:
Application, recordings and fees must be received by November 4, 2015.
Each application must be printed and have a private instructor’s signature and a parent’s signature.
- PRELIMINARY ROUND RECORDINGS:
Please email a recording of the applicant performing one movement of a solo work with orchestra accompaniment. The recording should include a piano accompanist performing the piano reduction of the orchestral part. ONLY AUDIO RECORDINGS will be accepted. Recorded media accepted include: iTunes and Windows programs that produce mp3 and mp4 formats. They should be emailed to Kathy@knoxvillesymphony.com or you may mail a hard copy of a standard compact disc along with your application fee to the address below.
