Knoxville Symphony Orchestra Celebrates 75 Years

In the Spring of 2010 the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra commissioned a painting by award-winning local artist Mike C Berry in celebration of its upcoming 75th Anniversary Season. The original painting is a 32 x 22 pastel on Wallis professional paper. A limited number of Giclee prints are available for sale through the KSO Office by calling 865-291-3310, option 4.

About the Artist
Mike C. Berry earned his Masters of Fine Art Degree from the Savannah College of Art and Design. He has exhibited in shows throughout Tennessee and Georgia for the last 12 years. Working primarily in pastels and oils, Mike creates colorful and vibrant cityscapes and landscapes, often bending and twisting the perspective in his compositions. Mike’s work has also been used in Pilot Food Mart Billboards across Knoxville and surrounding areas. In 2007 The Dogwood Arts Festival awarded Mike’s painting “Spring in the City” the 2007 Limited Edition Print, which sold out in a record breaking 21 days. Currently, one Mike’s works is the cover art for Jack Neely’s most recent book; Knoxville, This Obscure and Prismatic City.
Also his work has been featured daily on a blog called “Postcards from Knoxville” (http://mikecberry.blogspot.com) which featured a new small painting of Knoxville each day. Mike was voted “Best Visual Artist of East Tennessee” by The Knoxville News Sentinel 2009 Readers Poll. This spring, Mike was hired by ABC News to be one of the courtroom sketch artists for the U.S. vs. Kernell Federal Trial here in Knoxville where Former Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin testified. His daily court sketches were reproduced on ABC Nightly News and in the Sunday Telegraph Magazine in England.
He is the gallery manager for the University of Tennessee’s Downtown Gallery, in Knoxville, and is an active member of the Art & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville.
His work is on display at his studio located in the Emporium Center at 100 South Gay Street, Suite 111 and is open to the public every First Friday from 5-9pm.
