Application deadline for the preliminary audition is August 9, 2010. Only CD recordings will be accepted (no audio cassette tapes, VHS tapes or DVDs). CD recordings should include a representative sampling of works, i.e. a standard concerto, a solo Bach work and a sonata.

Invitations to the preliminary audition will be issued by August 13, 2010. Invited candidates will be asked to return a confirmation form with a $50 refundable audition deposit.

Preliminary Auditions will be held in September 2010 in Knoxville, TN.  The most likely dates for auditions will be September 13, 15 and 23.  The KSO will attempt to be as flexible as possible with invited canditates schedules.  Finalists will be announced after the September auditions.

Following the September preliminary auditions two finalists will be invited to perform with the KSO during the 2010-2011 season for a Masterworks series. Auditions will occur the week of January 23, 2011; the week of February 20, 2011; and the week of May 15, 2011. Finalists will be asked to perform a short recital (with a brief Q&A session) the Monday of their audition week. Repertoire for the recital must consist of the following: a solo Bach work; finale showpiece in the vein of Saint-Saens' Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso or Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen; plus an additional 2 or 3 works including a Mozart or Beethoven sonata and a 20^th century work, to be decided in consultation with the accompanist, the cumulative duration of which should not exceed the recital's designated 60 minute length.

 

The KSO Concertmaster position is a full-time position. The KSO performs a 35-week season from September through May. This position has a salary range of $48,000-$58,000. Benefits include group health insurance, short-term disability, life and AD&D insurance and pension contribution. A dental plan is available but not funded by the Symphony.

Auditions will be held on Monday, August 30, 2010. A refundable $50.00 deposit will be required from candidates invited to audition.
